Merrimack, New Hampshire, is a town in Hillsborough County with a population of approximately 27,000 residents. Its name is an American Indian word for “sturgeon,” a kind of fish. The Merrimack Historical Society preserves and shares the town’s history through documents, artifacts, and exhibits. Some of its exhibits include information about Matthew Thornton and other people from Merrimack’s past. Merrimack has six public schools that are operated by the Merrimack School District: four elementary schools, one middle school, and one high school. The town also has a charter school dedicated to the arts.
